About the Safe Haven Sanctuary
Our main goal is to find forever homes for our dogs, but some dogs need to stay in our care for the rest of their lives. The Safe Haven Sanctuary is a refuge for dogs who:
· are seniors and/or have multiple health issues
· have serious physical disabilities
· have serious behavioral problems like a history of multiple bites
Dogs such as these often don’t make it out of shelters alive. Senior dogs, dogs with disabilities or chronic medical conditions, or dogs that are fearful or prone to snapping or biting are slow to be adopted or unadoptable. If a rescue doesn’t take them, often they are euthanized. We offer these dogs a safe, loving foster home and care for their medical needs for the rest of their lives, however short or long they are.
How You Can Help
Our greatest need is for forever foster parents for Sanctuary dogs and for funding to pay for their ongoing medical expenses.
Become a Forever Foster Parent
Foster parents who are willing to provide a permanent home for a Sanctuary dog are the key to our program. If you can open your heart and home to one of our Sanctuary dogs, we promise you will be rewarded with the affection and loyalty of a being for whom you are the whole world—and with the knowledge that you saved a precious life. We provide medical care, food and supplements, temporary foster homes for when you need to travel, and all the support you need. You just provide a safe and loving environment! To apply to be a foster parent, please complete this online form:
Make a Recurring Monthly Donation
Our Sanctuary program is one of our rescue’s biggest expenses because many of the dogs require frequent medical services. These include regular vet visits, diagnostic testing, prescription medicine and supplements, and costly medical interventions if they become sick. By making a regular, monthly donation to sponsor a specific dog or to help the program as a whole, you can make a huge difference in the lives of vulnerable dogs.
To make a monthly donation to help our Sanctuary dogs, visit the link below. After selecting your monthly donation amount, select Donate and the monthly tab. If you wish to choose a specific dog to sponsor, simply write the name of the dog in the message box when donating, and your sponsored dog’s foster parent will send you periodic photos and personal updates.

Remy
10 – 13 years old
Remy was rescued from a breeding facility in April of 2024. He was diagnosed with dry eye that has left him with very little vision. He's on eye drops that will stop the progression of this eye condition and save any sight he has left. His foster mom has to hand feed him because he will not eat on his own. This poor baby was so weak when he came in he was always falling over.
While we have Remy up for adoption, we know that finding a home for a dog with disabilities is like finding a needle in a haystack. We are committed to caring for this sweetie for the rest of his life.

Bucky
14 years old
Bucky will spend the rest of his life loved in the CHR Safe Haven Sanctuary. His previous owners were expecting a baby and decided that Bucky wasn't getting the attention he deserved. It was the right choice because upon his rescue he required a lot of ongoing dental care. He's loving life and enjoying everyday. Bucky's foster mom has generously offered to support Bucky's medical care for the remainder of his life. He's in good hands!
